Wednesday, February 8th, 2012
A number of professional blackjack players are expert card counters and many of them claim that getting to know the dealer can help. One particular professional blackjack player, who usually plays in the casinos of Sin City, used a simple card counting strategy.
This player would identify blackjack tables that used 2 decks, reshuffled whenever there were 30 to go because this gave him ample time to count cards and bend the odds in his favor. If the casino followed a policy of reshuffling the cards too quickly, for instance after every 52 cards, his strategy wouldn’t work.
Simultaneously, there are a number of blackjack players who feel that card counting is not really worth it. Card counting is absolutely dull and boring when done as a job, and ultimately, it doesn’t even pay much. Basically, card counting, is repetitive, boring, and mechanical.
The above-mentioned card counter established an excellent relationship with the dealers, maybe to make card counting more interesting or maybe to prevent them from catching him. While card counting is not a crime in Las Vegas casinos, those caught card counting will be chucked out. However, if the dealers like the card counter and consider him to be a nice person, they might allow him to play a little while longer than other card counters.

Cambodian Blackjack Casinos Come Down Strongly On Dead Beat Players
Wednesday, January 25th, 2012
The blackjack casinos in Cambodia have decided to take a very strong stance against the many deadbeat players who plague these establishments. Those players who take loans and gamble but are not able to pay them back or come to the casino gaming floor with the idea of cheating the establishment are sure to regret ever stepping into the casino in the first place.
While this does sound promising and indicates that the Cambodian casinos are trying to curb problem gambling, the methods used to deal with these deadbeat players are beyond belief and would be recognized as illegal in most other countries. The methods may remind you of the movie Hangover II as players who renege on loans get their fingers chopped off.
For instance, Ms. Vo Thi Biet in Vietnam, got a chopped finger in the mail courtesy of the Cambodian casino that her 23 year old son had been known to play at. The elderly lady was required to pay her son’s debt of US $3,500 if she wanted to see her son again. On complying with the casino’s request, Vo Thi Biet got to see her son again.
Such drastic measures are very common in Cambodian casinos. A woman who cheated at blackjack using a wire and won $200,000 USD was tortured and killed inside her hotel room. The blackjack dealer who assisted her was also killed.
Perhaps it is time that players took up online blackjack which is safer and easier on their fingers.

Blackjack Player Discusses How He Beat the House
Wednesday, January 11th, 2012
Avery Cardoza, a casino gambler and author of the novel, Lost in Las Vegas, recently discussed his best blackjack victory in an article.
Cardoza is a self confessed professional card counter who had spent many nights at the blackjack tables in Las Vegas playing 21 and beating the house at its own game. According to the blackjack player, his best win at the blackjack table occurred in the year 1980 – a time when most casinos were not aware of blackjack card counters.
Cordoza may have had an easy time of it since he was dealing with single deck blackjack games which used 52 cards in all. According to the player, it was a late night in downtown Las Vegas when he hit the big one. Cordoza recalls hamming it up for the benefit of the dealers and casino employees, calling for drinks two at time and running from table to table. Although, it appeared that his betting pattern was erratic, it was in fact carefully calculated.
“Nothing in my play or demeanour suggested to them how deadly I was against a single-deck game,” he said. His lucky or rather carefully calculated break came when the dealer had 2 cards left, and Cordoza was left with hard 17 and the dealer’s 10. At this point, he requested for another card, which would not have been a smart move, had he not known what cards were coming. “The pit boss couldn’t believe his eyes. What were the chances of my drawing a 4, of all cards? The answer: 100 percent,” gloats Cardoza.

Underage Blackjack Gamblers Get Mohegan Sun Into Trouble, Again
Wednesday, December 28th, 2011
For the sixth time in four years, the Mohegan Sun Casino faced the wrath of the Pennsylvania State Gaming Control Board for its failure to curb underage gambling. The casino was slapped with an $80,000 fine for two incidents involving three juvenile blackjack gamblers.
In the more disturbing of the two infractions an unnamed 20 year old player in the company of his equally unnamed parents spent more than three hours on the gaming floor playing blackjack and the slot machines. He was supplied with beer while he played.
The other case involved a 20 year old and a 19 year old, both unidentified males, playing blackjack on the floor for almost two hours.
The state police investigated the two violations. Under Pennsylvania State Law, Under 21s are prohibited from betting on, playing or attempting to play either table games or slot machines in a casino.
Mohegan Sun agreed to pay the fine and also to implement a procedure whereby anyone who looks under the age of 30 will be required to furnish identification.
The role of the parents in the first case came in for special questioning by the Gaming Board members. The two could find themselves on the State’s gamblers black list.

Blackjack House Edge Lowest In Pennsylvania Casinos
Friday, November 18th, 2011
The Independent Regulatory Review Commission of the state of Pennsylvania recently requested the Gaming Control Board to check the Blackjack house advantage in PA casinos as compared to those in other states such as New Jersey.
In the state of Pennsylvania, the game of blackjack has a lower house advantage than other games as compared to various jurisdictions, which means players have a better chance of winning in this state. The game of blackjack has many varieties, and there are different rules that are applicable for blackjack. This makes blackjack good for the house or good for the players depending on the rules.
For Pennsylvania, the rules were set in July 2010 and the house advantage is less than 0.4% if players stick to the basic strategy, which is based on the computer driven concept.
The commission talks about having rules that are “consistent with legislative intent” and they are also interested in knowing how these regulations will affect the economy. This comparison will determine whether the rules are in favor of the people or against them.
Weakening blackjack rules increases the casino revenue and affects the player’s pockets. More casino revenue means more tax for the state, and so it is understandable what rules will apply. The best thing to do now would be to make the existing rules permanent.
