Blackjack Enthusiasts In Maine Now Have A New Casino

A new casino recently opened its doors in Oxford, Maine. The opening ceremony had a lot of hype and included Las Vegas showgirls, a number of speeches and a traditional ribbon cutting ceremony. The casino was originally approved by voters back in 2010.

There are over 500 slot machines available at the Oxford Casino and over a dozen game tables where guests will be able to play a number of games including Blackjack, Poker, Roulette and Craps. The opening of the new Oxford Casino will be good news to local Blackjack enthusiasts, as this is just the second casino to open its doors in the city of Maine.

While it is just establishing itself, the Oxford Casino is expected to do good business since it has very little competition. The Hollywood Casino is the only other casino in Maine and is located nearly 120 miles away.

Casino spokesman Scott Smith said that there are plans for more work to be done in the Casino and the gaming operations will expand by another 50%. Smith said “I’m very confident that people that come here will be proud that it’s part of the southwestern Maine entertainment choices that we now have.” The dozen game tables are expected to be visited by locals as well as tourists who come to Maine for the skiing, hunting, fishing and camping.

WSOP Casino Employees Event Won By Blackjack Dealer

Chiab “Chip” Saechao, a Blackjack dealer and employee at the Tachi Casino, in Lemoore, California had a memorable memorial day weekend. During the first World Series of Poker Tournament of the year, a special competition was organized for employees of the gambling industry. Chip decided to take part and surprised everyone, including himself when he walked away with over $70k

Chip told reporters after his win, “I will pay off a lot of my debt. I will give some of it to my wife so she can buy some nice things. Not too many can come over here to Las Vegas and go back home with this.”

The Casino Employees Championship had more than 700 players. However, most of them were gone in quick time and at the end of the first day, less than 50 remained. Chip played a focused game on both days and soon found himself winning a big hand. Chip later stated that he had never played a big tournament before but the experience he gained playing in small stakes cash games served him in good stead.

Chip emerged as the winner and walked away with $70,859 in prize money as well as the famous WSOP gold bracelet. Chip proudly said “I plan to wear it and show it off”.

QIM Founder Bags Overs $700K On Blackjack At SALT.doc

Michael Geismar, the president and co- founder of Quantitative Investment Management specializes in making money for other people by providing them with investment advice. However, the tide of fortune came his way when he opened out a $10k line of credit at Café Bellagio casino’s blackjack table.

Geismar was in Vegas to attend the SkyBridge Alternatives Conference and took the opportunity to try his hand at Blackjack and it paid off big time. Geismar who stated that he never counts cards and rarely plays the tables had a winning streak going for him and pocketed nearly $710k, in just two days.

His first day at the table went extremely well and in just six hours he turned his $10k line of credit into more than $470,000. The next day never went that bad as well and at the end he walked away with over $200,000. Geismar admits that while not a professional blackjack player, he has read former hedge fund manager and blackjack master, Dr. Edward Thorp’s book – “Bringing Down The House: The Inside Story of Six MIT Students Who Took Vegas For Millions”.

Bryan O’Leary from Alpha Financial Technologies said Geismar was over the moon. He was jumping into the pit screaming, “We’re going to need more chips over here!” At the end, the dealers were also happy as Geismar was generous, giving out tips in the thousands.

Brawl Takes Place At Blackjack Casino in Bismarck

Blackjack tables at land based casinos seem to be becoming more dangerous by the day, with attempted robberies taking place at the Bellagio and parents leaving their children unattended in cars in order to have a few rounds of blackjack.

One of the most recent episodes of Blackjack trouble took place at a brick and mortar casino based in Bismarck casino while players were seated at a blackjack table.

The trouble began when a blackjack player refused to put out his cigarette and began to smoke in a public place of the blackjack table. The other players, blackjack dealer and casino officials politely asked the man to put out his cigarette. However, as the player was in an inebriated state, he refused to put it out and began to make a scene by insulting those present and demanding the casino call the police. The player insulted the blackjack dealer, who in turn gave him back his chips and asked him to cash in and leave the table.

In a sudden splurge of anger, the blackjack player threw the chips at the dealer and then grabbed chips from the main stack on the table and disrupted the whole set up. After this, a fight broke out where several people were injured and more than a dozen participated in the brawl.

Blackjack Player Attempts to Rob the Bellagio

The Bellagio casino in Las Vegas recently reported an attempted theft when a blackjack player attempted to rob their blackjack table and make away with several stacks of casino chips. The player was a 24 year old man named Michael Belton and he tried to run away from the casino with 23 chips worth $5000.

Belton was not alone in his actions and had come to the casino with two accomplices; it was a plan that had one man spraying the dealer with pepper spray, while the other made off with the chips. The chips were then to be cashed in by the third man, who was identified as Carlos Rodriguez, the unintelligent mind behind the scheme.

However, Belton the blackjack player hardly got far as he was tackled by 2 casino employees.

According to David Schwartz, who acts as the director of the UNLV Center for Gaming Research, it was a plan that was highly unlikely to succeed. Schwartz commented on the matter and said, “If you’re doing this with chips, you’re always going to have to get those chips back to the casino, and there’s really only one place where you can cash them in – which is a casino. So, that’s usually what prevents most of these from working.”

Perhaps, if he had taken the help of George Clooney as Ocean and his eleven, he may have been successful.

University Professor Teaches Course on Blackjack Gambling

Blackjack players may be surprised to know that they can now learn about blackjack and casino gambling within the prestigious halls of a university campus, as a professor from the University of Akron has started lecturing on the odds of winning at gambling!

Timothy Norfolk, who is the Chairman of the Mathematics Department, has been giving talks to his groups of students on calculating the odds of winning at gambling. This session is part of a series of lectures on the subject provided as a 5 day workshop. The workshop gives college students one credit and has been titled by Norfolk as the Mathematics of Casino Gambling.

Norfolk has been using the example of playing craps and has also discussed playing blackjack and the odds of winning at the game. He also expressed his views on playing casino games like blackjack for gambling purposes. “The point of it is to have people enjoy themselves without losing too much money,” he said.

Norfolk brought a craps table cover, dice and chips to demonstrate to the class of 15 how to play the game of chance. He said craps offers the best chance of winning among table games.

“That’s because the percentage the house takes of any bet is the smallest,” Norfolk said.
