Casino Games House Edge
June 16th, 2007 by OBO-admin
An article at Forbes online evaluates the best casino games to play if you are looking to beat the house. Though, in the first paragraph they mention that the house has an advantage at every game, but there are casino games with better odds then others. If you only bet one time while playing blackjack then the game has 50/50 odds. The longer a casino player plays blackjack the better the chance the casino will eventually win. When an unskilled blackjack player plays, the casino has a 2% house edge on them. That is $20 dollars per thousand.
Casino Games House Edge
Blackjack 2%
Wheel of Fortune 11%
craps 1.4%.
roulette 5.6%.
In 2006, 56 million people visited a casino. Non-Indian casinos had $32 billion dollars in gambling revenue . The revenue is actually much more then this because this number does not take into account the hotel and restaurant revenue in 2006.

Blackjack not profitable for casinos?
June 8th, 2007 by OBO-admin
An informative article was written in the Naperville Sun that talks about how casinos keep beatable games at the casinos because it is important for players to know that there are games that casino players can beat. It gives them a sense of hope even if they themselves don’t have the necessary skills to beat the game. The article mentions that when people became aware that people were beating blackjack it soon became the most popular table game passing craps
It talks about the current trend of many casinos who are changing blackjack to make it harder to beat. They are paying out 6-5 for blackjacks when they used to pay out 3-2. Also using shuffling machines that make it near impossible for card counters to count cards. Now with casinos changing the rules it may become less attractive to casino players knowing that the recent changes hurt their chances of beating the casino.
If casinos really want to make the most money they would take out the rule changes and shuffling techniques and let some players beat the house. The reason behind this would be that the game would rise in popularity with many amateur players flocking to the tables to “try” to beat the house. Many will be un-successful and that is where the casinos will once again cash in on blackjack.

Blackjack in Pennsylvania Casinos?
May 31st, 2007 by OBO-admin
A lawmaker is currently introducing legislation that would allow Blackjack and Roulette in Pennsylvania state owned casinos. The legislation is sponsored by House Majority Leader Bill DeWeese. In Pennsylvanian, there are currently 14 casinos that are allowed to offer slot machines but under the current law they cannot offer anything else. The legislation is far from being passed, it has to go through a conservative General Assembly and Gov. Rendell who both have not shown that they are in favor of the bill. Many believe that it may be passed in years to come when the state becomes hungry for more state dollars.
Pennsylvania has estimated that they will produce $1 billion dollars of tax relief dollars from current casinos. This number is believed to go up significantly if the state introduced table games including blackjack. With $28 dollars of every $100 gambled at tables games going to the state and local governments.

Crown Casino Faces Investigation After Change in Blackjack Rule
May 8th, 2007 by OBO-admin
Crown Casino in Melbourne, Australia could face fines up to $1 million dollars after they changed a blackjack rule. The change hurt blackjack players and could potentially increase the casinos take from blackjack players by 40 percent. They are now being investigated by Victorian Commission for Gambling Regulation for the change that they hoped went under the radar. In the past, an experienced blackjack player would lose 50 cents in every $100. With the new rule in place, the player could lose 70 cents. The reason the casino was able to get away with the rule change is because Crown Casino is the only casino in Melbourne so gamblers had no choice if they wanted to play blackjack.
The rule that the Crown Casino changed was the number of cards a blackjack dealer could deal to themselves. This made the dealers hit on a ‘soft 17’ which increases the house edge. This small change is estimated to make an additional $6 million dollars for the casino in a year. Many high rollers and frequent blackjack players at the Melbourne casino are not happy with the change and are blaming the casino for being greedy. When a casino changes the rules they must get prior approval from the Victorian Commission for Gambling Regulation. They also must update their online rules before the rule goes into effect. It does not look like the Crown Casino followed these steps and will now face the possibility of fines. The original article was found at the Australian news site the age.

Virtual Blackjack Table Games
May 6th, 2007 by OBO-admin
One of the newest games at Pennsylvania casinos are electronic blackjack games. In Pennsylvania, they don’t allow casino operators to have casino table games so they decided to add virtual blackjack machines that have virtual dealer who deals virtual cards to up to 5 players that sit around a 42-inch plasma display as if you were playing live blackjack. The new blackjack machines have buttons in front of each player which allows them to hit, stay or double down. The Pennsylvania casinos are still hoping to one day add tables games to their casinos but for now are happy to be able to offer the next closest thing. Casino operators have said that the blackjack machines have gained popularity and are looking to add more machines. The original story can be found at the Philly online newspaper.
