Indiana Governor Speaks in Favor of Blackjack Card Counter

June 9th, 2010 by OBO-admin

Mitch Daniels, the governor of Indiana, voiced his opinion about the case of Grand Victoria Casino Resort, which banned blackjack player Thomas P. Donovan for card counting, in a speech addressed to the graduating students of Franklin College. The governor suggested that Thomas P. Donovan might win back his right to play at the casino that banned him.

In the legal battle between Donovan and the casino following his ban, the casino had emerged victorious till the card counter challenged the court’s ruling. Currently, the Supreme Court is trying to decide if the management of the casino has the right to ban the card counter.

Underlining the fact that blackjack is a game of fortune, the governor appreciated the fact that Donovan had spent time and efforts to perfect card counting. Advising the students to learn the same lesson, he explained that, although the element of luck cannot be wrested out of the “game of life,” the odds can be tipped in one’s favor by making some wise choices.

The governor’s speech suggests that he will not force the Indiana gaming commission to introduce specific card counting laws; simultaneously, he has made it clear that he will not discourage the commission from doing so.

US Newspaper Reports Federal Probe into Bodog

May 26th, 2010 by OBO-admin

The Baltimore City Paper of the US has reported the latest developments regarding the US federal probe into illegal transfer of gaming funds to casino websites such as Bodog US and Full Tilt. A federal case filed against one Kenneth Wienski of Missouri reveals a lot of information about this investigation, the details of which have been kept secret.

The newspaper says that federal authorities charged Kenneth Wienski, who hails from Missouri, on May 19 in Maryland for money laundering and gambling, a move that has leaked out a lot of interesting information regarding this investigation, which has been so far kept top secret in accordance with judges’ orders to seal related documents that support most of the seizures. Wienski stands accused of helping process online gaming funds by moving them through a check processing company and a medical billing company for which he worked.

The federal complaint against Wienski shows how top secret informants have been associated with this probe, which commenced in 2006 following the passing of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) in America, targeting payment processors associated with Bodog. One of the informants has been personally associated with fund processing for these online gaming and blackjack sites.

New Blackjack Switch Launched at Red Hawk Casino

May 25th, 2010 by OBO-admin

Red Hawk Casino, located at Placerville in El Dorado, has launched a new variant of Blackjack called Blackjack Switch, which Blackjack buffs seem eager to try out.

The game presents an innovative way of playing 21, allowing players to enhance their chances of winning by switching top cards between hands. First, players are required to wager equally on two positions. The dealer then deals two separate hands. The player can either play the hands as they are or switch the second card of each hand. The switching can be done only after the dealer checks for natural Blackjack. The rest of the game follows regular Blackjack house rules.

The game was created by Geoff Hal, the present managing director of Customized Casino Games, a company based in Las Vegas. In 2000, Hall observed while playing two hands at the same table that he could make better hands if he were allowed to switch cards. He spent the next year working out the math and launched the game in 2001.

Since wagers must be made for two hands whenever the game is played, Blackjack Switch tends to deplete bankrolls in no time. Moreover, the game requires focus, which prevents players from combining Blackjack Switch with drinking.
