Former Blackjack Dealer Pleads Guilty in Embezzlement Case
A woman, who used to work as the blackjack dealer in a local casino, pleaded guilty of embezzling funds. According to the prosecutor, she will have to pay around $85,000 to the casino.
The former croupier, Misty Lynn White (28) of Sapulpa, confessed that she had embezzled funds in the months of January and February when she was under the employment of the Tulsa-based Osage Casino.
According to Shannon Cozzoni, the assistant US attorney, White had helped one of the casino players win blackjack games by stealthily showing him her face-down cards. Julia O’Connell, the federal public defense lawyer, said that White used to receive a small payment for her services.
Cozzoni said that the casino fired White after her surreptitious activities were caught on the casino’s video cameras. Stating that the total loss to the casino because of White’s activities is not yet known, Cozzoni said that White had helped the man win as much as $6,000 one day.
White could get a prison term as long as 20 years, but federal guidelines on sentencing might give her only 18 months. She is currently out on bail, and the final verdict on the embezzlement case will be delivered on December 10.
