Flamingo
History of the Flamingo Las Vegas
The Flamingo Hotel and Casino has enjoyed a long and colorful history from its position on the Las Vegas Strip. Construction on the hotel originally began in 1945; however, the original owner ran into financial problems. Bugsy Siegal, a well known mobster of the time, stepped in to save the day and the hotel finally opened in 1945; named after the nickname of Siegel’s girlfriend, The Flamingo.
Today, The Flamingo Hotel and Casino offers 3, 626 hotel rooms and is styled in a Art Deco style of South Beach and Miami. A central outdoor area hosts a flamingo exhibit.
The Flamingo offers guests a world-class spa, swimming pools and tennis courts. The actual pool area comprises 15 acres and includes three pools as well as a Jacuzzi. The Flamingo offers fine dining options ranging from Chinese to Italian and includes the Tropical Breeze, Jimmy buffet’s Margaritaville, Paradise Garden Buffet, Hamada of Japan, Java Coast, Beach Club, Ventuno Ristorante and Café and the Steakhouse. The casino itself is huge, boasting 71 table games, 2,100 slot machines and an extensive race and sports book.
