History of the Excalibur

Excalibur Hotel and Casino, one of the most notable hotels in Las Vegas, is owned and operated by MGM Mirage. The hotel was originally named for the mythical sword that belonged to King Arthur. The King Arthur theme is used extensively throughout the hotel. The exterior is designed to resemble a castle, while a wizard keeps watch from a high turret. Excalibur opened in 1990; originally built by Circus Circus before being sold to MGM Mirage.

The hotel offers a free tram which connects the hotel to sister properties, Mandalay Bay and Luxor, on the south. These three hotels are also connected directly together so that guests can go back and forth between the hotels without the need to actually go outside.

All of the restaurants throughout the hotel feature Arthurian style names include The Steakhouse of Camelot, the Roundtable Buffet, Sherwood Forest Café, and Sir Galahad’s Prime Cuts.

Entertainment includes a 900 seat amphitheater with two dinner shows as well as a midway carnival, arcade, 3D and 4D rides. Inside the 100,000 square foot casino guests enjoy a variety of card games as well as lots and poker.

Excalibur offers 4,008 well appointed and Arthurian styled guest rooms.
